CT COLEBROOK — Colebrook Board of Assessment Appeals approves one assessment reduction in 10 cases heard. Presiding as newly elected chairman, Thomas McKeon led the three-member board in voting unanimously to reduce Walter J. Gray Jr.'s outbuilding assessment from $65,500 to $50,500 after he presented photographs of poor property conditions, while maintaining nine other existing valuations.
The Brookside Farm Association, represented by attorney William Riiska, challenged its assessment citing dam liabilities and arguing comparable dams in town escape taxation; the board voted unanimously to maintain its valuation. All nine other appeals, whose bases cited poor structure, unlevel foundations, lack of market comparables, and saleability concerns, resulted in unanimous votes to maintain existing valuations.
